Tailored and Timely Nusing Care of a Stroke Patient

Description: LNCs recognize that medical management and nursing care of stroke patients can be complex. Updated and additional information about classifications of strokes and other acute neurological injuries is needed to bridge knowledge gaps related to types of strokes, etiology/mechanisms of strokes, neurological anatomy and physiology, and critical clinical correlations. Learners will acquire knowledge about the differences between hyperacute and acute strokes and the nursing care and the treatment actions necessary to take to minimize secondary neuronal injury and minimize other potential complications. Finally, learners will be able to distinguish how best to facilitate optimal patient outcomes in conjunction with an interdisciplinary stroke team.

Case Examples in Forensic Pathology Consulting
Eric Peters, MD
Description: Following the presentation, Legal Nurse Consultants will acquire additional and updated critical knowledge needed to effectively analyze and navigate the complexities of postmortem reports and death certification records. Nurses will become more adept at identifying and evaluating other key forensic records and documents, and further education will assist nurses in assisting medicolegal colleagues in determining meritorious personal injury, medical malpractice, and criminal cases. Updated information and presentation discussion will include guidance on when nurses will better understand when a consultation with a forensic pathology specialist would be appropriate and beneficial in further assisting with a legal claim.
